Summary of Civilization:

The Aztecs lived in Mexico during 15th centrury. The place where the first Aztecs lived is Asland. The Aztec myth is that Huitzilopochtl, the Aztec God told the Aztecs to look for an eagle on a cactus eating a snake. So they went in search of and found it in northern Mexico. The name of the city was Tenochtitlan. The city was built on a bunch of islets in a lake called Texcoco. Through the islets there were canals used for transportation. They used rafts sail themselves across the canals. The aztecs had to move because the river that they lived by dried up. Since the river dried up they moved to the mountain city Xochicalco. The mountain allowed the Aztecs to defend their city very well against invaders.The Aztecs could see everybody coming up the trails.
There were two levels of social structure in the city. The higher level was the higher class and the lower level was the lower class.

Geography:
The soil was good for growing crops.
Since the lakes were salty the Aztecs took their water from mountain springs where fresh water was generally taken from. There were salt mines and they commonly mined salt. They also used the rivers and lakes to fish. The north of Mexico is has rocky deserts and the south is tropical rainforest. As soap they used the root of a plant called copalxocotl saponora americana to clean their clothes they used the root of metl.

Climate: The Aztecs climates where hot and humid.

Art and Architecture:
The Aztec babies would spend most of their time piling up little pieces of the earth, and they would find pieces of broken pottery or potsherds that inhabitants would pitch or throw out of their house window or door.{ That is where archioligists found all the mounds of earth, and potsherds that were thrown out and stacked into mounds by the younger children who were not old enough to do anything that the older peoples could do. }

Culture (Religion, Customs, Food, ect.):
The Aztecs are Indian people who controlled an empire in central Mexico,during the time whene Spainards opened up to the New World. They came from the North and arrived in The Valley of Mexicoin the twelf century. The Aztecs sacraficed humens to the sun god, Huitzilopochtli,and Tonatiuh. They belived that the sun needs blood to have strength to rise. The Aztecs belived that the human heart was the Suns favorite food. The Aztecs artistic and technacal acheivements where based on more advanced cultures such as the : Toltecs, Mayens, and Zapotecs. Their culture included a distincteve stone wheel calender and they weaved cotton, feathers, and mahogony fibers. They also made sculptures of hard and sort stone. They made jewelry out of Turqouse, Jade and other semetrical stones. They also used Copper, Silver, and Gold. They are very advanced for their time and listened to music.

The Sun and Moon Story

The gods wanted to bring light to the world and they asked for a volunteer to become the sun. Not one, but two gods volunteered - the rich Tecuciztecatl and the poor Nanauatzin. At midnight, after five days of preparing to be sacrificed, they were taken to a terrible fire. Tecuciztecatl was told to throw himself into the flames. Four times he tried, but each time the flames drove him back. Then it was Nanauatzin's turn, and he rushed straight in. Tecuciztecatl tried again, and he followed Nanauatzin into the fire. In the morning, Nanauatzin rose and shone brightly in the sky. He was the sun. Then Tecuciztecatl appeared. He was the moon. To send them on their way, Quetzacoatl, the Wind God, blew hard until they moved through the heavens.

Technology (Farming, hunting?):
The Aztces did farming but it took up to much time, and it was hard work to plant. The reason the Aztecs did not really like to farm was because the maiza (corn) might wither after they did all that work, and then after that they had to remove the ears from the husks. The aztecs grew their crops on tied together reed mats with poles attached to the bottom of the mats and down into the water. The the reeds had alot of soil on top of them. They would canoes to get from crop to crop, to check to see if the other person needed help with something, like harvesting or scaring away birds that would eat their crops. The aztces fished, gathered food, grew food, and hunted. The Aztces had bananas, cacao (chocolate), tomatoes, maiza (corn), squash, sweet potatoes, carrots, other veggies, meat, birds, and edible dogs.(DISCUSTING) The boys and men hunted deer, duck, rabbit, geese, little game to eat, and other birds to eat and trade for other applinces. The boys did go to school to learn how to be tough, and how to become a great and powerful warrior. The girl were not allowed to go to school because they had to stay home and clean, cook, sew, and gather things like food for their family.
